Senator Loren Legarda saluted and honored Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara’s meaningful legacy as a notable statesman who made invaluable contributions to the lives of many Filipinos during his tenure in the Senate for over a decade.
During her co-sponsorship speech for Resolution No. 1070, expressing sincere appreciation to Angara, Legarda underscored his diligence and passion for nation-building as a testament to what can be achieved in the country when hard work and service are combined.
To recall, Angara assumed the Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) position when President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. appointed him to the cabinet this month.
His second six-year term as senator was supposed to end in 2025.
“From the moment he stepped into the halls of the Senate in 2013, Sonny has been an architect of progress. With an ear always turned to find solutions, Sonny listened, studied, and dedicated his abilities fully to meaningful legislation,” she conveyed.
“I am confident that Sonny’s dedication in the Senate will mirror his work in DepEd – always striving for excellence and pushing boundaries. His vision, competence, and efficiency will undoubtedly drive meaningful reforms in our education system,” Legarda continued.
Legarda has commended Angara’s unyielding commitment to serving the nation to the full extent since his first term as senator as evidenced by the more than 340 laws he has sponsored and authored. According to Legarda, this is a mere reflection of Angara’s pursuit of improving the lives of millions of Filipinos.
The four-term senator expressed confidence that Angara will be able to take on the challenges waiting for him in DepEd, noting that they may be demanding. Still, he is fully prepared to address this significant responsibility with strong resolve.
“Sonny, your colleagues in the Senate will miss your eloquence, sharp mind, and the hard work you made appear effortless. Your contributions have strengthened this institution, and as you embark on this new journey, we stand with you, ready to work together for the welfare of our learners and the entire nation,” Legarda remarked.
